A Mini Documentary of the Building of the Roosevelt Track

I was approached by Jeff Martin a year ago, just after stepping off of plane from Africa. Something extraordinary was going on at Roosevelt High School. A new track was being built with the assistance of some very special people, and businesses who wanted to look outside themselves, and help a public school in need.

Jeff didn’t know what the story was exactly, but knew we would regret it if we did not get out and shoot the goings on at Roosevelt Hight School, filming in HD video, and documenting the construction of this new track. We would figure out the details later.

“More Than Just An Oval,” became the “details” later.

This film is a project over a year in the making. It reunited me with some old friends, created some special new relationships, birthed this magnificent facility, and inspired the hearts and minds that inhabit the oval. Being at the track meant a lot of early mornings, hot afternoons and late nights, and it was all worth it.

I’d like to thank Jeff Martin, and the entire Martin family for the vision, creativity, and support, and Sam Martin for his incredible music, and some quick music editing.

Thank you to Michael Bergmann for his incredible tenacity and passion for track and field, his friendship, and for being an amazing ambassador for the company he works for, Nike.

Also, thank you to Dave Anderson and Brad Nile, of Anderson Construction, the money, brains and heart behind the business of getting a track on the ground.

Appreciation and awe go out to Charlene Williams, Christian Swain, Donnie Macpherson, Glenn Elliott, Greg Neuman, and community leaders, Herman and Nike Greene, and Kip Jacob.

I’m continually appreciative of the PLM team- Jamie Haggerty for his “Jamitization” of any project that goes out the doors.

I dedicate my participation in this film to the kids at Roosevelt High School. You inspire, and let us know that anything is possible.
